
Dr Takumi Yamamoto is Head of Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Director of Supermicrosurgery International Lymphedema Center in the National Center for Global Health and Medicine in Tokyo, Japan. He is also on the Executive Committee of International Society of Lymphology. He completed his medical school, residency and fellowship at the University of Tokyo. His area of expertise is on supermicrosurgical reconstructions and lymphedema surgery. He has performed over 10,000 lymphatic anastomoses, given over 200 invited lectures, and performed over 200 cases of invited live demonstrations/surgeries outside Japan. His presentations have garnered numerous awards, including the International Society for Lymphology Presidential Award (in 2017 and 2019), and the Japanese Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery Travelling Fellow 1st Prize in 2016
A prolific contributor to lymphoedema and supermicrosurgery literature, Dr Yamamoto has authored more than 300 publications and numerous influential chapters in leading microsurgical textbooks in multiple languages. He is also a reviewer for major microsurgical journals. His ground-breaking paper on Indocyanine Green Lymphography Severity Staging System using Dermal Backflow Patterns has revolutionized the diagnosis, staging and treatment protocols for lymphoedema. He has also been featured on the Japanese Broadcast Corporation NHK World Documentary Series “The Professionals”.
