VISITING EXPERT IN PAEDIATRIC NEURO-ONCOLOGY

Prof Annie Huang is the Ministry's HMDP Visiting Expert in Paediatric Neuro-Oncology. Her HMDP Programme is scheduled for 14 Aug - 18 Aug 2023.

ABOUT THE VISIT/HMDP EXPERT

Dr. Annie Huang is a paediatric neuro-oncologist/scientist in the Division of Hematology/Oncology Brain Tumor Program at SickKids since 2002.  She holds several leadership positions including as Associate Chair for Research, Department of Pediatrics at SickKids and the University of Toronto. She is Vice chair of Biology for CNS tumours for the Children’s Oncology Group and serves as an elected pediatric representative on the board of the Society of NeuroOncology.

Dr. Huang started the Rare Brain Tumour Consortium (RBTC) to pursue her long-standing research and clinical interest in rare infant brain tumours. In her laboratory she combines genomics, functional epigenomics and genome-wide screening tools to understand the pathogenesis of rare CNS embryonal tumours, with the goal to improve treatment and patient survival. RBTC has made important contributions to the revised WHO classification of CNS tumors. Many of the discoveries from the Huang lab have been applied to analyses and development of clinical trials for rare tumours through Dr Huang’s leadership in different clinical trial consortia. She also frequently advises on treatment of children across the world diagnosed with rare CNS tumour.
