The functions of the Specialists Accreditation Board as listed in the Medical Registration Act are:
a. To determine the qualifications, experience and other conditions for accreditation and registration as specialists under the Medical Registration Act.
b. To define specialities in medicine for the purpose of maintaining and keeping the Register of Specialists.
c. To determine the training programmes (local and overseas) to be recognised for persons who intend to qualify for registration as specialists under the Medical Registration Act.
d. To grant to persons who have the qualifications for registration as specialists under the Medical Registration Act Certificates of Specialist Accreditation.
e. To recommend to the Singapore Medical Council programmes for the continuing medical education of persons who are registered as specialists under the Medical Registration Act.
f. To advise the Singapore Medical Council on matters affecting or connected with the registration of specialists under the Medical Registration Act.
Through these statutory functions, the Specialists Accreditation Board is responsible to the Ministry of Health for the overall performance of the specialist training system.
