91 new confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1-2009)

Situational Report

Singapore has confirmed 91 new cases (879th - 969th case) of Influenza A (H1N1-2009) today, bringing the total tally to 969 confirmed cases. Investigations are on-going for the remaining 97 cases. Of the 89 cases investigated yesterday, there were 61 local cases and 28 imported cases.

Coping with Influenza A (H1N1- 2009)

H1N1 is now a global pandemic. It is widely circulating in all countries and communities. The virus is here to stay, just like other influenza strains. Fortunately, the current strain remains mild, except for high-risk individuals with underlying medical conditions where complications and even deaths may occur. Our focus is on caring for those with more severe illness.

95 new confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1-2009)

Situational Report

Singapore has confirmed 95 new cases (784th - 878th case) of Influenza A (H1N1-2009) today, bringing the total tally to 878 confirmed cases. Investigations are on-going for these 95 new cases. Of the 97 cases investigated yesterday, there were 49 local cases and 48 imported cases. To date, 329 patients have been discharged and the rest are recuperating.

Pandemic Preparedness Clinics (PPCs) are now geared up and H1N1 Ready

With the increase in local cases, we are taking a more targetted and risk-stratified approach in our management of the disease so that hospitals can focus on care for those who are more ill. Though H1N1 is infectious, the majority of the H1N1 cases here have been mild. Many patients have in fact fully recovered from the disease which is self-limiting in nature.

Two Clusters of Suspected Local Malaria Transmission

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently investigating two clusters of suspected local malaria transmission involving a total of 14 people. As of 6 June 09, all but two cases have been discharged. All 14 cases had no recent travel history overseas, suggesting that there is possible local transmission in the affected areas.

Update on the HIV/AIDS Situation in Singapore 2008
In 2008, another 456 Singapore residents were newly reported with HIV infection. About 93% of the new cases detected were males. This brings the total number of HIV infected Singaporeans to 3,941 as of end 2008 (Table 1). As at 31 Dec 2008, 1,799 persons are asymptomatic carriers, 914 had AIDS-related illnesses and 1,228 have died.
