Managing Influenza A (H1N1-2009)

Influenza A (H1N1-2009) has become endemic among global communities. Yesterday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) informed that countries are no longer required to submit regular reports of individual laboratory-confirmed cases and deaths to WHO. This is because the reporting of such numbers is no longer a useful monitoring tool. WHO has also decided that it will no longer publish the global tables showing the number of confirmed cases for all countries.

Two Clusters of Suspected Local Malaria Transmission

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently investigating two clusters of suspected local malaria transmission involving a total of 14 people. As of 6 June 09, all but two cases have been discharged. All 14 cases had no recent travel history overseas, suggesting that there is possible local transmission in the affected areas.

Update on the HIV/AIDS Situation in Singapore 2008
In 2008, another 456 Singapore residents were newly reported with HIV infection. About 93% of the new cases detected were males. This brings the total number of HIV infected Singaporeans to 3,941 as of end 2008 (Table 1). As at 31 Dec 2008, 1,799 persons are asymptomatic carriers, 914 had AIDS-related illnesses and 1,228 have died.

A census survey to profile the Allied Health practitioners was carried out in 2006. The profiling of Allied Health practitioners is primarily intended to support policy development in relation to manpower planning, development and regulation in the allied health professions.
